Leo Butcher

	Leo Butcher, 75, of North Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of DuQuoin, died May 23, 2002 at North Kansas City Hospital.  
	He was born on July 29, 1926 in Murphysboro, the son of Linden and Ella (Herring) Butcher.  He was a graduate of Murphysboro High School.  Mr. Butcher served his country during World War II by enlisting in the Navy on July 21, 1944 and serving until April 30, 1947.  On April 16, 1948, Leo married Mary D. Roberts in Murphysboro.  
	Mr. Butcher was employed by GTE as a Service Technician for over 40 years, retiring in 1989 in DuQuoin.  He then moved to North Kansas City to be near his daughter.  Leo was a member of the North Cross United Methodist Church in Kansas City.
	Mr. Butcher is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; a daughter and her husband, Linda D. and Marlin R. Roberts of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Earl Butcher of Aberdeen, Maryland; two sisters, Minnie Dickerson of Murphysboro and Ruby Wright of South Haven, Mississippi and two grandsons, Matthew R. and Zachary B. Roberts.
	In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
	Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31 at North Cross United Methodist Church.  In accordance with Mr. Butcher's wishes, he was cremated.
	Memorial donations may be made to the North Cross United Methodist Church or the North Star United Methodist Church Land Fund.
	Arrangements were by Husman-Sparks-McDowell Funeral Home of Odessa, Mo.
